چکیده

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is one of the most common skin cancers. In this paper, we present an automatic BCC detector based on confocal Raman spectroscopy. Maximum a posterior (MAP) classifier was adopted as a detector using features obtained with principal component analysis (PCA). Fisher measure filtering (FMF) is proposed to enhance the performance of BCC detector. Since FMF eliminates non-discriminative frequency components from feature vector, BCC could be more accurately detected. Experimental results show that FMF can reduce the complexity of the detector and increase the detection rates. Key-Words: BCC, Raman Spectroscopy, PCA, Fisher Measure Filter

Changes in nuclei and peritumoral collagen within nodular basal cell carcinomas via confocal micro-Raman spectroscopy.

Confocal micro-Raman spectroscopy is used to probe the nuclei of normal human epidermal cells and epidermally derived cancer cells from nodular basal cell carcinomas. Clear differences are seen between the spectra. The nuclei of tumor cells appear to have different contributions from nucleic acids, histones, and proteins with an actin-like spectrum than those of normal epidermal cells. Changes ...

Skin cancer biomarkers

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer and there are two forms: melanomas and melanoma (basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma). The main risk factor in both types of skin cancer is exposure to sunlight and other sources of ultraviolet radiation. In comparison with basal or squamous cell carcinoma melanoma skin cancer is less common but more serious if not treated early, and ca...

We describe a multifocal Raman micro-spectroscopy detection method based on a digital micromirror device, which allows for simultaneous “power-sharing” acquisition of Raman spectra from ad hoc sampling points. As the locations of the points can be rapidly updated in real-time via software control of a liquid-crystal spatial light modulator (LC-SLM), this technique is compatible with automated a...

Proteomic Analysis of Gene Expression in Basal Cell Carcinoma

Background: Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) is a type of non-melanoma skin cancer. Alteration in gene expression is the important event that happens in cancer cell. Detection of this event is possible by proteomics techniques. Methods: Normal and tumor tissues were taken from BCC patient. Total proteins were purified by standard methods, and proteins were separated by two-dimensional electrophoresis...

Biosensing Based on Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy by Using Metal Nanoparticles

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a promising tool in the analytical science because it provides good selectivity and sensitivity without the labeling process required by fluorescence detection. This technique consists of locating the target analyte on nanometer range of roughed Au-nanoparticles. The presence of the metal nanoparticles provides a tremendous enhancement to the result...
